How do I use G41 or G42 Tool Radius Comp? It does not seem to be working for me.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Did you see the ToolOffsetsDemo.ngc ?

After some trying I was able to get G42 to work for outside offset, but when I switch to G41 going the same direction to get an inside cut, it get Concave Corner error

Hi Kevin,

It is not physically possible to form an inside square corner with a round tool,  you must radius the inside corners with a radius at least as big as your tool radius.

Hello,

When tool comp fails on inside corners, should it not revert to simple offset segments with hard corners?

Or does this geometry have an inflection that prevents a continuous offset contour from being generated?

Hi Brad,

Not sure exactly what you mean, but I suppose an option could be added to ignore GCode errors and perform some fallback result.

I try to insert the G-code from this web site that show's G41 code and it does not seem to work in DynomotionCNC

http://www.cncezpro.com/g41m.cfm

It draws the first "D" shape profile but does not do the inner shape...?

Hi Kevin,

As I said it is not possible to make angled internal corners with a round tool.  Although I did try it in Mach3 and it does allow the path. I suppose we could add similar behaviour.

Tom,

It would be great if you can make it work like others (Mach3,Fanuc,Haas). Some of my customer rely on G41/G42 as they already have the g-code and need to adjust the tool size to make the part fit. Going back and regenerating the g-code from the start is not desirable or feasible for them. So for now, I will have them switch back and use Mach3.

Thanks,
Kevin
